Hi All, I've been looking for a reason to post here since my introductory post and just got it this morning. I've sold my first project as a direct consequence of the dark label outreach approach! It is a full song production and mixing for an artist based in Texas (I'm based in San Diego). This will also be my first remote collaboration with an artist who self produces (not just a vocalist). Big thanks to everyone on the group calls for the inspiration, and guidance from the Dark Label team on sales mindset and approach!

Just had my first proof session with an artist that was a previous vocal student. Went really well - she's excited. I'm excited. It kinda rolled into a SSF at the end - but I had my offer numbers in place so I knew what to say when she asked. Setting up a monthly amount for 2 sessions a month + vocal production work. Which feels like it will grow into more production/songwriting/tracking work - as we progress. Feeling pumped - thanks Dan and Aaron and the Dark Label community!

Jan '24Thanks for sharing @Riley ! I think you hit the nail on the head. The goal posts keep moving as you progress, that's the true mark of an entrepreneur and who knows where it will take you! I for one know that I'm never satisfied, that's why I actually rarely share my wins. That's also a default though, and looking back occasionally to give yourself a pat on the back is important. I am trying to get better at celebrating and sharing the points of success that show the work I have put in. I feel like its beneficial not only for myself but others around me to offer points to celebrate and interact.

Thought I would share a win: last week I signed my first outbound client at my full rate since starting Dark Label. Nothing crazy, just a single, but significant for me nonetheless. Met this person at an IRL networking event (listening session type thing) where I played one of the songs I worked on for my portfolio, which I got a lot of good feedback and had a few follow-up calls from, which turned into this sale. Just landed a deal with an artist to do 5 singles next year - going to do them for $1k a pop, and have her pay me $500/month for 10 months. Really looking forward to transitioning a few of my existing clients to this type of payment schedule so I can have some more reliable income next year. I think I probably could have charged more, but it was my first time pitching a $5k project to someone so I just wanted to make sure I could land it. You live and learn!
